Focus: Hardware

Established in 1994, SSMART's activities to date have been very much focused on naval projects and specifically in the field of radar and electro-optical sensors, combat management systems and control and monitoring systems. Our expertise is split into four main areas: (1) Production, (2) Overhaul, Modernisation and System Maintenance (3) Overall Program Management, Combat System Integration and Related Services (4) Integrated logistic Support. Our scope however is always evolving and expanding.

Production

Small, specialised lines of production common in the defence industry and custom modifications required by the armed forces mean it is often costly or impossible to carry out all production in-house. Our flexibility due to our medium size, unique structure, wide scope of activities, state-ofthe-art infrastructure, technical expertise and superlative quality control make us the ideal European partner for such bespoke production.

SSMART has already undertaken numerous specialised production lines for large multinational defence companies.

Intergrated Logistic Support

Logistic support is one of the largest problems facing the modern day defence industry and Armed Forces.
As product ranges increase and technology is continuously updated and replaced, it is all the more necessary to ensure users are properly trained, documentation is always up to date and spare parts and technical assistance are always available on tap.

SSMART's state-of-art training centre offers a blended learning approach, combining theory, simulation and
hands-on experience to ensure users are always 100% capable of using today's ever more complex systems and technology. Apart from initial operator and maintainer training courses, refresher courses are also provided, effectively dealing with personnel turnover.

Currently these services are being provided for Thales Nederland TACTICOS Combat Management System and Imtech Marine and Offshore B.V. Integrated Platform Management System.

SSMART's training centre consists of individual simulators for each system, capable of simulating numerous platforms as well as providing concurrent interoperability and netcentric training capabilities.

Overhaul, Modernization & System Maintenance

The life cycle of equipment in the defence market is purposefully long due to operational requirements and the high cost of R&D and production. In order to maintain or even improve the functionality of existing equipment while dealing with obsolescence issues it is imperative to properly maintain as well as periodically completely overhaul and modernise equipment.

As companies expand product ranges, and as governments increasingly focus the activities of their armed forces on core competencies, the need arises for specialised partners with the flexibility, know-how, expertise and competitiveness to undertake such tasks - SSMART is this partner.

In our specially constructed flexible facility we have ensured the existence of all required infrastructure as well as specially trained personnel to undertake almost any overhaul, repair or modernisation requirements for defence systems in cooperation with the original equipment manufacturer. In addition to this we offer complete offsite technical assistance and repair capabilities, 24hours a day, seven days a week, creating a strategically located regional centre of excellence.

Complete testing facilities are also available, including but not limited to: functional tests, antenna testing, roll and pitch servo testing, alignment, air tightness, insertion loss measurements, VSWR measurements, TV camera checks, rain tests and other microwave measurements.

Our experience to date is significant with the undertaking of the complete modernisation.

Program Management & Combat System Integration

In large complex defence programs, partners with the required regional know-how and complete system knowledge are often invaluable for guaranteeing a successful in time delivery of a turn-key project.

Since our establishment we have been specialising in undertaking program management of particular sections of large turnkey projects as well as undertaking combat system integration and delivery.

Combat System Integration (CSI) is the methodical application by experienced specialists of program management and engineering processes to obtain a harmoniously functioning system, resulting from the connection and intermeshing of all subsystems. This is done according to performance specs, operational requirements, schedule, and budget.

The integrator not only integrates subsystems with one another but ultimately integrates the combat system with the platform to obtain one complete system. This means that all the required functions are provided and integrated with respect to logistics, software, hardware, and personnel.

Our particular area of expertise is the integration of radar, electro-optical sensors and electronic support systems (ESM) with combat management systems and effectors of platforms including: Supervision of Installation, Setting To Work (STW), Harbour Acceptance Test (HAT) or equivalent for land based platforms, System Integration Tests (SIT), Sea Acceptance Trials (SAT) or equivalent for land based platforms and Live Firing Trials (LFT).
